4 ways to deal with holiday stress

Share this story:

The holidays bring joy, good food, and precious family time, but they can also bring unnecessary stress and anxiety. To make the holiday season more merry and bright, here are a few ways to decrease your stress while enjoying your time with family and friends!

  1. Have realistic expectations

Going into the holidays and not expecting everything to go as planned is one of the first steps to conquering holiday stress. Things will not be perfect. Go into the day expecting imperfection. It will help you enjoy the day even with the unexpected hiccups!

  1. Don’t be afraid to tell people no

The word “no” is your best friend during the holidays. If you’re a people-pleaser like so many others in the world, it might feel like you’re letting someone down. You have to remember that your emotional and physical well-being comes first. If you think you might be overwhelmed by one more task, don’t be afraid to tell people no!

  1. Keep practicing your healthy habits

Your healthy routine will keep you on track. Maintaining your eating and exercise habits is important. If you go on a walk with the dog at 9 a.m. every morning, keep it on your schedule! A healthy routine will add some normalcy during a season that can be unpredictable.

  1. Take time to breathe

Taking time to unwind is key for your emotional and physical well-being. Carve out some time to watch a comfort movie, go on a walk, or practice meditation. It will be a great reset if you feel like the weight of holiday stress is crashing down on you.
