Healthy holiday tips

The holidays are here and Cricket Health is here to support you by delivering tips that will let you worry less about your health and enjoy more of what you love. Dieting during the holidays is no fun! Food is at the core of every holiday season and worrying about your nutrition may come second, But for people with kidney disease, this can be a dangerous decision. We have you covered with a couple of tips that will give you the best of both worlds!   

Enjoy your holiday meal  

Eat the pie, challah, and gumbo that was made with love! Just remember to be aware of how much you are eating, and use a small plate to help with portions. It’s okay to have a bite!  

Salt and Potassium  

Try to limit pre-packed foods and foods with lots of fat that can contain high amounts of potassium and sodium which should be limited by patients with CKD. Make something from scratch and enjoy family time making it!  

Sugar Sugar  

For a treat that everyone will enjoy add some fresh fruit to your dessert list grapes, strawberries, pineapple, and pears or make a kidney-friendly dessert like our angel food with berries  

Exercise and Holidays  

Don’t forget to get in your steps this holiday season! Add fun games and activities for the whole family that will get you moving. Go on a family walk after dinner, kick around a soccer ball with the kids, and dance to your favorite holiday song!
